MEET THE TEAMMay Yim,
MA, AMFT
May values authenticity, openness, acceptance and safety in the therapeutic environment. She works with a gentle yet direct communication style. She sees her clients on a hero’s journey, with a storied past, possessing agency in the present and a future that is evolving. She is curious about the whole person in all of their multifacetedness. May strives to help her clients thrive in life and not just survive in life.
May uses a relational psychodynamic approach, where the therapist is a living, breathing, dynamic partner together with the client. She views the therapist-client relationship as a sacred and unique relationship where major change and growth can occur. May also explores somatic approaches for those open to it. Body sensations can often be clues to our inner world.
May grew up in the city of Hong Kong and spent her college years on the east coast. She is well versed in adjusting to cultures, embracing different identities and parts of self, and navigating life changes. In her May’s prior career, May was a tax accountant. She understands the struggles and tensions between the logical brain and the sensitive heart. She can conduct sessions in Cantonese.
May is a Registered Associate Marriage and Family Therapist. She holds an MA in Clinical Psychology from Antioch University Santa Barbara with a specialization in Somatic Psychotherapy, and a BSc in Business Administration from Boston University.
