Training at The Alamo

We offer training and continuing education courses, supervision, and consulting in a vibrant community space.

The Alamo Training courses support clinicians in increasing their competencies and deepening their work. We offer an innovative training program that is grounded in contemporary psychoanalytic theory, incorporating somatic and neurobiologically-informed perspectives, and drawing inspiration from the broader humanities—especially poetry and music.

Our courses are for all—whether you are just emerging into our field or a seasoned clinician, from practicing psychoanalysts to students who are just beginning to explore psychoanalytic concepts.

The study of psychoanalysis tends to be relegated to the path towards candidacy at psychoanalytic institutes. We strive to break down the barriers and offer a range of seminars for deep study and cultivating psychoanalytically-informed clinical work.

Expansive Learning and Rich Discussion

The history of psychotherapy is a history of collective learning and shared knowledge. The Alamo Training intentionally creates learning spaces that foster expansive dialogues about psychoanalysis and clinical practice, and supports the integration of professional and personal identity.

In our course offerings, we engage in rich discussions around readings on clinical theory and the humanities. Trainings offer a space to invest in the expansion of our knowledge and understanding of the diverse and evolving elements of our field. It’s also a place we practice articulating theory and describing our interventions in the clinical space. Participation is both as a student and a facilitator. Together, we embody an ongoing commitment and responsibility towards contributing to one another’s growth and development in the field.

Developing a Clinical Language

We want to equip clinicians with the necessary tools to be able to contribute knowledge to our field. This process will help you develop a clinical language and a strong conceptualization of theory that you will be able to carry with confidence throughout your career. This space offers an opportunity to continue your professional development and education through access to our clinical community and exposure to diverse and cutting edge theory.

We also want to invite vulnerability and honesty. We welcome the sharing of true dilemmas and uncertainty. When we bring our most vulnerable selves into the conversation, we have a chance to bear and understand the emotional experiences and struggles in a different way.
